You have already answered your question with the most easiest and cheapest solution, and that is to have your wife also install the Ooma app on her cellphone. That way both of you can be away separately from home and not miss anything.
Another option, though more costly and for use within the house, is to pick up a new or used HD3 handset for your Ooma installation and register it with your Telo. When a voice message is received, the display on this cordless handset changes with a very prominent "bar" added to the display to indicate that you have a voice mail message. This will be likely easier to spot display than a "tiny" light displayed on the Telo device tucked away in your office.
A third option, also mainly for use in the house, is add a separate old-style answering machine to the household analog side of your system that you are feeding with the Linx. You could probably get one of those pretty cheap. My AT&T phone with built-in answering machine has a very prominent blinking red light to indicate a new message recorded, which is much harder to miss and can be seen from well across the room both day and night. And with many of these answering machines, you can even dial in from outside to check for and hear messages.
As for Ooma changing the manufacturing of the Linx device to add such a message light, I'd say that is the least likely to happen. I doubt there are not enough users trying to use the Linx device in the manner that you are using it to warrant a remanufacturing, and will also be a much longer wait until available (if not ever).
By the way, your Ooma phone device is called the "Telo" with no "c". (The use of of "Telco" can be confusing to others, like myself, who may be used to "telco" referring instead to the phone company your landline used to connected to.)
